Little Bike Project

In the UK, 1 in 5 children can’t ride a bike[1] and only 2% of children cycle to school[2].

The aim of our Little Bike Project is to provide bikes to children from low/no-income households so they can complete their Bikeability training and not miss out on the benefits and freedom that cycling brings to so many!

Wheel good Vibes will be raising money to buy a small fleet of children’s bikes. This fleet will be allocated to a chosen school, a link will be set up for servicing and maintenance for the bikes to ensure the project is sustainable. Each year the bikes will be given to those children with the greatest need, the children who don’t have access to good cycles or any cycle at all! They will then be able to undertake their bike ability course, learn to ride safely on a good quality bike and then continue to use the bike for that year. At the end of the year they will give the bike back to the school. It will then be serviced and ready for the next child to repeat the process. Eventually we will spread this to multiple schools and have multiple fleets of bikes.. for this to happen…

WE NEED FUNDING

We have a crowdfunding page set up which you can donate to here:

We are also running a Prize draw for an Electric bicycle!
An awesome prize donated by Williams cycles to help raise money for this awesome cause!

The facts around the need:

One of Bikeability’s key findings is that providing cycles makes it easier for children from underrepresented groups, particularly those living in low-income households, to access Bikeability[3].

There is strong evidence that cycling to school age 10, tracks to cycling at 16 and beyond. People who take up cycling as a result of Bikeability continue to cycle as a result of the confidence instilled and because cycling becomes normal and habitual. Help us make this accessible to more children in our community.

The ‘the benefits of cycling’ list is far too long to put here.. it goes without saying that getting more children riding bikes at a young age is positive and impactful. Learning to ride a bike is often taken for granted, there are some that never get the opportunity.. we are trying to change that.

Bike Bros In Bilbao

To promote this project brothers Rory, Dom and Sunny cycled 750 miles from Bilbao back to the UK. Climbing 24,000 feet and covering up to 80 miles a day, this was a grueling test of their passion for bikes but they completed it in style - wheel good vibes in action! The guys raised over £500! Enough money to get our first few bikes for the little bike project! This was where the project began…
